Kandiyohi County Family YMCA

The YMCA is the nation’s largest provider of childcare with 9000 sites serving over 500,000 children every year.  YMCAs are dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable childcare.  We provide family-centered, values-based care that nurtures children's healthy development.  Well-trained staff provide safe and exceptional care so that you can have peace of mind while at work, and partner with parents and guardians to insure that children grow up healthy, happy, and strong.  Like all Y programs, childcare is open to all, with financial assistance available.

Goals of the YMCA                         Childcare Programs

  • To support and strengthen families
  • To help children develop to their fullest potential
  • To provide a safe, nurturing, and positive environment where children love to play and learn
  • To teach, model, and reinforce character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility

No matter how many hours children spend in childcare, family is the most important structure in their lives.  At the YMCA, great childcare is great family care.  When parents drop off their children at the YMCA Childcare Center or Child Watch, they're entrusting that Y with their greatest treasure.  We take that responsibility very seriously.  We encourage parent visits at any time and solicit their input and involvement.  YMCA Childcare helps children grow physically, mentally, and spiritually, while emphasizing and modeling character development values including (but not limited to) caring, honest, respect, and responsibility.

At the Childcare Center and Child Watch / Kid's Gym, be assured that we will always treat children in our care with kindness and respect.  Our staff are all trained to use Positive Behavior Guidance methods to gently guide disruptive children, and to reinforce and praise children making good behavior choices.  We have three staff at the Center certified to teach children using the Second Step Curriculum, an outstanding conflict resolution curriculum designed specifically for preschool-age children.

So... we invite you to take a look in at a typical day in one of our centers.  You won't be able to help but notice the fun!  And although it looks like all fun, what you're actually seeing is also something else - learning.  Since studies show that children retain information better when they are engaged in enjoyable and meaningful activities, it's nice to know that, in our centers, that's what learning (and playing) is all about.
